Aladdin (2019): Our wishes come true for a second time.

Disney’s Aladdin remake, which came out roughly nine months ago, is one of many remakes not just from Disney but from other major studios to come out in recent years. However, unlike a majority of these releases, this remake successfully captures the charm and joy of watching the original while still taking new liberties. If you haven’t seen the original, the general plot is that a poor young man finds a magic lamp that unleashes a genie, and starts to use his power to impress a young woman, while avoiding being caught by the sultan who wants to steal the lamp from him. I walked into this movie not expecting too much than a retelling okay version of the original. To be honest, the first thought that came to mind after watching this was that it was pure fun. Will Smith as the Genie of the lamp is perfect, and the other main characters are almost just as charismatic, funny, and interesting. Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine work really well too. They have great chemistry and are easy to root for and care about. The story starts off running and doesn’t take a breath until after the first song, as it slowly becomes a fun movie enjoyable to all ages. To circle back to Will Smith, he kills as the Genie in both regular scenes and musical numbers. I was listening to his songs from the movie multiple times after I walked out because I just couldn't get enough of it. If you loved the original, you'll love this remake too. If you didn't feel too strongly about the original, this movie will make you want to go back and see what you missed. It's just that good.
